When
you download the Election Results Viewer
(by selecting the "Standard Format" or
"Large Format" button on the "Viewer Introduction" page for
the first time), you'll either receive a compressed
JAR file, or the applet will be sent by traditional means depending upon
the browser type and version. In its uncompressed state, the applet is approximately 180K
in size. Download time varies depending upon your Internet connection.
The good news...the applet is downloaded only once. During the evening,
the applet will pull in the current election results approximately every ten minutes and
update the display if new data has been made available. The update file is approximately 34K in size.
If you would like to get more information about what the applet is doing, open and view the Java
Console from your browser. With Internet Explorer, you can find the Java Console under the View menu.
With Netscape, you'll find the Java Console under the "Communicator" pull down under the "Tools"
menu option. If you're on an Intranet with a firewall between you and our Web
server, you'll have trouble running this application if the firewall will not allow
Java traffic.
Platform Support
Testing has primarily been conducted on NT, Windows98, Windows95, iMac OS8.6, and Compaq Tru64 UNIX systems.
Mac users must use Internet Explorer version 4.5 (Mac Edition) with MRJ2.2. See Mac Support for more
detailed information.
Browser Support
Java is constantly changing, and implementations among
browsers and browser versions vary. In order to accommodate the widest
variety of browsers, we have developed the Election Results Viewer using
JDK version 1.02.
We strongly recommend Internet Explorer
version 5.0 or Netscape 4.5 or greater to run this
application. For best results, set your display to 800x600 or
greater, and set color depth to something greater than 256 colors.
